Carved in the rich Basalt stone quarried in south India, this intricate sculpture portrays a lion with an elaborately carved mane. Standing proud on its two hind legs, with a curved tail displaying power and pride, it holds a perfectly round ball that moves freely in its mouth.
Legend has it that the world is in the mouth of a great Lion and is capable of swallowing it any time. The concept is the impermanent nature of the world we live in. From its mouth spews the swirling waters of the eternal cosmic ocean.
