Lord Shiva is adjudged the best dancer in the Hindu Pantheon of Gods. In south India, he is traditionally depicted in paintings in the Tandava pose. Standing gracefully on his right leg, the other crosses over. The right hand gestures ‘Abhaya’ or fearlessness and the left points to his left toe as the point of salvation or ‘moksha’.
Under his foot is the demon “Apasmara” or forgetfulness. He crushes this demon in order to remind us of our divine nature.
