| KRISHNA AND RADHA ON A SWING
WITH GOPIS Inspiration: Jayadeva was
a well-known poet and a devotee of Lord Krishna. In his lyrical
poem Geeta Govind, he describes with striking eloquence the spiritual
love felt for Krishna by Radha and the Gopis
of Brindavan. Krishna the lovable flautist, is seen on
a swing here along with Radha and other adoring Gopis all around. Krishna is the
ideal lover, graceful, charming and sensitive; passionate but not lustful, demanding
but not aggressive. The idyllic Brindavan provides the perfect setting for the
sweet love of Krishna and Radha, which translates into a divine ecstatic dance
of the lovers. It is where the lyrical Yamuna flows, peacocks dance in ecstatic
joy, birds sing passionately, flowers bloom and whisper words of love, winding
creepers caress the trunks of trees as a lover embraces her beloved, bees dance
while singing love songs, cows are drawn to the melody of the divine flute and
the fragrant sandalwood winds intoxicate the senses. Krishna’s persona
was so sensual yet so spiritual. So passionate yet so tender, such is the love
of the divine. |
