Born to Shahajiraje Bhonsale and Jijabai, Shivaji was nursed the idea of Swaraj right since his childhood by his mother. Since his father worked as a military chief for the Sultan of Bijapur, Jijabai made a valiant attempt to raise her son with ideals of being true to his soil and identity. Hindavi Swaraj in Bharat and nothing less was her vision. She instilled in him great courage through stories from Ramayan & Mahabharat and shared her dream of a land independent of any foreign rule or influence.

At a very tender age, Shivaji Maharaj showed the greatness of character and leadership qualities needed for such a gigantic task. under him, in the face of stiff resistance from Sultans and the Moguls, Maharashtra became unified and consolidated as a Hindu state.
