KAMADHENU
The Hindu scriptures are agog with reference the holiness
of Cows. Among the many precious gifts to humanity
that was churned out during the great Krshirsagar Manthan
or the churning of the ocean of milk, Kamadhenu, the
first cow was one of them. Kamadhenu is depicted with all
the 33 crore Gods in her stomach. This goes to suggest that
she is revered as the mother of all Gods.
From the cow's milk come many treats to the palate like milk,
cream, cheese, butter and ghee. All these are considered excellent
for health in limited quantities according to the precepts
of Ayurveda.
To a Hindu, a cow is an object of utter reverence and is always
seen outside any temple. To feed a cow is written as one of
the better deeds of human life in order to attain the heights
of heaven.
